Jurnal Psikologi Sosial http://jps.ui.ac.id/index.php/jps
JURNAL PSIKOLOGI SOSIAL (JPS)

JPS is an open-access journal that publishes empirical research aimed at advancing our understanding of theoretical issues in the field of social psychology, especially within the context of Indonesian people. We accept both quantitative and qualitative research from a wide range of scholars, including Indonesian researchers and researchers outside of Indonesia. We focused on the investigation of social psychology for Indonesian people regardless of where they live and seek to develop social psychology as both basic sciences as well as applied science. JPS is published twice annually, in February and August.

JPS is currently managed by the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Indonesia, and the Indonesian Association of Social Psychology (Ikatan Psikologi Sosial – IPS). Originally, we published only the printed version of JPS. However, since 2017 we have officially published both the printed and the online versions of the articles. The articles of JPS between 2017 and 2018 have been processed and published on the old website (http://journal.ui.ac.id/index.php/jps) since 2019 we introduced the new website of JPS.

________________________________________________________________________

Nationally Accredited Journal: Grade 2 of SINTA (SK: 10/E/KPT/2019).

ISSN Print: 0853-3997

ISSN Elektronik: 2615-8558

Email: jurnalpsikologisosial@ui.ac.id or jurnal@ikatanpsikologisosial.org

Publisher: Faculty of Psychology Universitas Indonesia and Indonesian Association of Social Psychology, HIMPSI

Supported by: Office for Research and Innovation Management (KPPRI), Universitas Indonesia

Visit our old OJS: old website

________________________________________________________________________

Addressing this issue, Te Whatu Ora (Ministry of Health) and Total Healthcare (THC, a large Primary Health Organisation) worked together to put together a “unique and unsolicited proposal” (instead of competitive tender) to fund Brown Buttabean Motivation (BBM) to provide its 12 week From the Couch (FTC) lifestyle change and weight loss program more widely to a predominantly Māori and Pacific clientele in South Auckland. Results from a formative evaluation of 109 individuals struggling with obesity (BMI>=30) across 3 cohorts showed weight loss of 7.1 kg from an initial average weight of 173.1 kg, and mental health gains (i.e. only 20% showing depressive symptoms at the end compared to 60% at the start) for the 57% who completed the program. THC nurses, doctors, and health coaches contributed to and supported the delivery of FTC, which followed BBM’s well-defined program of motivating lifestyle change. It was found that a supportive environment (no judgment) and peer-based education (accepting no excuses) motivated clients through not only diet and exercise training, but also through social media where Facebook groups formed helpful communities that supported face-to-face work in the gym. We close with a discussion of BBM’s principles for success, and how extensible this might be to other communities.
James Liu, Evan Valdez, Jenn Sarich, Gloria Finau, Alosina Nua ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://jps.ui.ac.id/index.php/jps/article/view/1315 Fri, 28 Feb 2025 00:00:00 +0700 Legacy Prof. James H. Liu Untuk Psikologi Sosial Indonesia: Sebuah Obituari http://jps.ui.ac.id/index.php/jps/article/view/1317
Our collaboration began when James, Mark Woodward (Anthropologist – Arizona State University), and Nora Fisher Onar (Political Scientist – University of San Francisco) invited me – then still a master's student in Psychology – to assist in their cross-cultural, multidisciplinary research. At that time, they were studying critical junctures - how an event in the corridor of history shapes the direction of a nation or society (Liu, Onar, & Woodward, 2014). It was a profound experience for me personally. Not only because of its thought-provoking theme, but also because it was here that I first directly observed and learned how psychology, which mainly concerns micro phenomena (human thoughts and behaviors), can speak about complex and broad (macro) issues such as nation buildings. Later, I realized that this was James's strength and unique character as a scholar; he was able to marry psychological theories and methods with various fields of study and build collaborations with many scientists from diverse academic backgrounds and countries/cultures. From this research collaboration, and with James's encouragement and supervision, I learned to write academic article and published it in an international journal (Hakim, et al., 2015).
Moh. The experiences of these families are then analyzed in relation to the concept of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to explore social intervention models and strategies that may promote a more just, inclusive, and sustainable society. This article was developed based on the researchers’ involvement in a support group for families from lower middle socio-economic levels who have children with multiple disabilities. In addition, this article was also specifically prepared based on the experiences of producing a participatory video making that involved four families in the support group being studied. Qualitative data which became the main data source for this article were obtained from several data collection processes that occurred during the production of the documentary video. The data collection processes included two focus group discussions and two semi-structured interviews with each family. The data were analysed by using thematic analysis techniques. The overall findings of this research are summarized in two major themes, namely "the need for comprehensive and integrative assistance" and "the need to strengthen the role of local communities". These two themes are then discussed in relation to the concept of SDGs and the Indonesian policies on disabilities.
Monica Eviandaru Madyaningrum, Murti Hadi Wijayanto, Maria Irenne Indrayanti ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://jps.ui.ac.id/index.php/jps/article/view/1223 Fri, 28 Feb 2025 00:00:00 +0700 Perempuan berswatantra menghadapi perubahan iklim dengan literasi ecopsychology feminism http://jps.ui.ac.id/index.php/jps/article/view/1205
Women are a group that is vulnerable to becoming victims of the impacts of climate change, the availability of air to meet sanitation needs, disasters that can occur at any time, and secondary impacts from economic problems that may arise. This research illustrates how literacy can strengthen women, open their minds, change paradigms about the environment, and even move women to try to be active and independent in responding to the impacts of climate change. Using qualitative methods, researchers carried out inductive coding on the results of interviews with five people with the highest New Ecological Paradigm Scale scores from sixty-six subjects selected using the criteria of women aged 18-40 years who liked to read literacy in the form of novels by female writers from Indonesia. Word Frequency analysis found that five words had context and formed the theme of this research, namely women, nature, mothers, characters, and the environment. This research reveals how feminist ecopsychological literacy can change views, determine attitudes, and mobilize Indonesian women to be pro-environmental and independent in responding to climate change, which causes changes in the natural environment.
Indriyani Santoso, Rizal Kurniawan, Agitia Kurniati Asrila, Ayuthia Mayang Sari ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://jps.ui.ac.id/index.php/jps/article/view/1205 Fri, 28 Feb 2025 00:00:00 +0700 Penyesuaian Akademik Mahasiswa Pendatang dari Daerah 3T (Terdepan, Terluar, Tertinggal): Bagaimana Peran Asertivitas dan Kecerdasan Kultural? http://jps.ui.ac.id/index.php/jps/article/view/1092
Students' academic adjustment in the early years of college presents unique challenges for those from 3T areas (Frontier, Outermost, Disadvantaged). Successful academic adjustment for these students requires certain supporting skills. This study examines the role of assertiveness and cultural intelligence in academic adjustment among students from 3T areas. A total of 80 first- and second-year students from 3T areas at a private university in Salatiga participated (61.25% female, M_age = 20.47 years, SD = 1.66 years). The instruments used were the Assertiveness Formative Questionnaire, the Cultural Quotient Scale, and the Academic Adjustment subscale of the Student's Adjustment to College Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results indicated that: 1) Assertiveness and cultural intelligence both play a role in the academic adjustment of students from 3T areas; 2) Assertiveness significantly affects academic adjustment; 3) Cultural intelligence does not significantly affect academic adjustment. Based on these findings, faculties and universities should implement programs to support students from 3T areas in their academic adjustment, focusing on enhancing assertiveness skills.
Maria Nugraheni Mardi Rahayu ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://jps.ui.ac.id/index.php/jps/article/view/1092 Sat, 01 Mar 2025 00:00:00 +0700 Peran kepribadian dan orientasi budaya (individualis vs. kolektivis) terhadap perilaku inovatif individual pada pegawai http://jps.ui.ac.id/index.php/jps/article/view/914
Individual innovative behavior reflects the exploration and application of new ideas in the work environment. Personality and cultural orientation (individualism vs. collectivism) play an important role in shaping an employee's innovative tendencies. Unfortunately, most current research still examines personality factors and cultural orientation factors separately, even though both factors have great potential to be interrelated in predicting individual innovative behavior. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the influence of personality and cultural orientation on individual innovative behavior in the workplace. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling, with a total of 265 participants who are employees with at least one year of work experience. The research instruments consisted of the individual innovative behavior scale, the IPIP-BFM-25 Indonesia Scale, and the cultural orientation scale. The results of the study showed that individualist orientation, intellect personality, and conscientiousness were significantly related to the tendency of innovative behavior. Individuals who are open to new experiences, tend to be individualistic, have strong self-discipline, and have a high level of education are more likely to show innovative behavior. In addition, these characteristics are more often observed in male employees. Meanwhile, collectivism did not show a significant relationship with innovative behavior. These findings have important implications, both theoretically and practically. Theoretically, this study confirms that personality and culture orientation can play a role in shaping innovative behavior, although there is variation in their effects. Practically, these results indicate the importance of developing human resource management strategies that can encourage innovation by considering individual factors and work culture.
Sukma Nurmala, Ali Mashuri ##submission.copyrightStatement## http://jps.ui.ac.id/index.php/jps/article/view/914 Mon, 24 Feb 2025 00:00:00 +0700
